Not sure what to see at Accounting Business Expo 2017? This short series of posts by industry experts reveals their top picks from more than 80 sessions and 110 exhibitors. The Expo will be on March 21-22 in Darling Harbour, Sydney, showcasing the latest thinking in accounting careers, technology and business models.
The advancement of technology and software is having the biggest impact on accounting practices. From how you run a practice more efficiently to opening up new sources of revenue. Here’s the top eight things I’m going to check out at the conference and why.
PRACTICAL TIPS TO AUTOMATING COMPLIANCE
Tuesday 21 March 2017 // 10:20 am – 10:50 am // Blue Room
Presenter: MATTHEW PROUSE, Solutions Manager for Practice Tools, Xero Australia
Preparing tax returns is central to most accounting practices so I am always looking for new ways shave five to 10 minutes off the process every year to increase our capacity. We’ve lodged over 5,000 returns through Xero Tax so I’m keen to benchmark our process against the tips Matt has.
INSIDE THE LAB: SIMULATING A LIVE HACK ON AN ACCOUNTING FIRM
Tuesday 21 March 2017 // 11:10 am – 11:40 am // Orange Room
Presenter: KAREN MCDONALD, Associate Director – Professional Risks, Accountancy Insurance
Data security is at the top of our priorities and that of our clients. We have all heard stories of emails, bank accounts and systems being hacked. I’m super keen to see an accounting firm live hacked. I want to make sure our IT policy is strong.
PREPARE FOR IMPACT – WHEN AI MEETS ACCOUNTS PAYABLE
Tuesday 21 March 2017 // 4:15 pm – 4:45 pm // The Modern CFO
Presenter: DESI LORAND, CEO, Power Business Services
“I love accounts payable” said no one ever. I am always looking for ways our clients can streamline their business processes. Accounts payable, invoices, receipts is time-consuming and does not add any value. OCR technology is great but this area of accounting processes is underserviced. I can’t wait for AI!
E-INVOICING VS ONLINE INVOICING – HOW TO GET PAID FASTER
Wednesday 22 March 2017 // 10:20 am – 10:50 am // Green Room
Presenter: ANDREW STEIN, CEO, Payreq
On the same theme of automation business processing, I’ve read about the advancements in e-invoicing and I want to know more.
As our clients grow and hire more employees their payroll requirements become more complex with pay conditions, awards and timesheeting. Some are about to outgrow the payroll module of their accounting software. So I’m looking for a solution that also integrates with their existing accounting software that ticks all the boxes.
Banks just aren’t SME friendly when it comes to lending money to fund cash flow. I’ve heard great things about Moula as an alternative solution so I want to find out more details about their partner program.
I hadn’t heard of this platform before so I’ll be heading over to watch a live demo and see if I can play around with it. I’m always looking for ways to streamline our practice management and client communications.
Document management is a constant headache for most practices. We were paperless from day one. But that doesn’t mean it is always easy to find documents. Especially when clients are not diligent about naming the files correctly. I’m keen to see how Hubdoc can help us with tasks like collecting bank statements.
